September Update on Biggar Public Toilets
Progress has been very positive over the last couple of weeks.
We are delighted that both the Clyde Wind Farm Fund and the Biggar Common Good Fund have shown confidence in our plans, by agreeing to provide the grants which we requested.
Donations from local business and individuals now exceed £6,000.
SLC Estates dept is progressing lease arrangements (heads of terms have been agreed). Once the lease has been assigned to us, we can begin conversion work. This will take a number of weeks to complete.
With this start-up finance and lease in place, we will be able to proceed with the project.
In the meantime…
We must maintain our fund raising efforts to ensure we will have sufficient funding for operational costs.
Collecting boxes continue to attract donations.
We are concentrating on operational planning. We need volunteers, for
Regular checks on consumable items
Maintaining tidiness and general state of toilets at the standard which we expect (the regular cleaning will be contracted out)
Checking coin boxes (including collecting cash)
Minor maintenance, care of plants, flowers, etc
Fund raising.

Background:
In March 2015, a Working Group was established, to create a sustainable basis for continued operation of the Biggar public toilets (which the Council had decided to close).
The group has developed a viable plan, based on the facility being unmanned, with automated door locking and un-locking at pre-determined times. Cleaning will be contracted out.
The WG has applied for grants for the necessary capital works, and is working to establish a start-up fund of £15,000, to cover first year operating costs. An operating budget and outline cash flow projection have been prepared.
(further updates will be circulated every few weeks)
