The Venue

The Corn Exchange is the perfect venue for your shows, conferences, lectures, film showings, or community events.

The various spaces within the Corn Exchange, including the theatre can be hired for your own event.

The retractable, raked seating in the auditorium allows it to be laid out in theatre style or cafe style.

We are happy to discuss your requirements, including preferred layout of table and chairs, provision of projector, screen, sound and light, technical advice, arrangements for catering, and any other support you may need.

We can run a fully licensed bar if required. This will be operated by Biggar Theatre Workshop, with all proceeds going to the charity.

Disabled Persons: The Corn Exchange has a chair lift facility for disabled persons. Please notify the Corn Exchange in advance if you are attending an event and require to use the chair.

The hire rates for 2022 can be found here.

Our History

The Corn Exchange, a Grade B listed building dating back to 1860. The building is a major landmark in the town, built on the site of the old Meal House. The new Corn Exchange failed to achieve success as a grain market and became a popular dancing and entertainment venue. In 1935 the Corn Exchange was gifted to the Biggar Burgh Council and the Biggar Theatre Workshop now leases the building from the South Lanarkshire Council as a venue for its theatrical performances.

Having completed the first phase of an extensive refurbishment project. Biggar Theatre Workshop at The Corn Exchange is actively looking to include the wider community and visiting groups ot make best use of the building as a more diverse community resource.
