Corn Exchange Young Performers (CXYP) provides opportunities for young people to learn about theatre and explore their own skills and potential. We provide weekly workshops for four different age groups, covering different aspects of theatre. The Corn Exchange is a community resource and CXYP plays a vital role in allowing young people to learn about the basics of performance and theatre.
Cultivating the interests of young people and their enthusiasm for drama is at the heart of our practice. We believe that dramatic expression allows children and young people of all ages to embark on journeys of personal, social and creative development. Participation in our sessions can enhance levels of confidence and self-esteem, whether performing onstage or with their peers.
The set up of our drama groups allow young people from different school years to come together and interact in a safe, creative and supportive environment. We actively involve our young people in many areas when staging a production. So if you’re interested in acting, scriptwriting, directing, lighting, sound, costume, make-up or stage management, then come along and join one of our drama groups!
New participants are always welcome. However, due to the popularity of our drama groups, we do need to set maximum class sizes. New members may be placed on a waiting list until a place becomes available for them.
Parents/carers are asked to complete a Consent Form which also requests contact details and information on allergies or medical issues.
- P1-4: 3.15pm – 4:15pm
- P5-7: 4:30pm – 6pm
- S1: 6:00pm – 7:30pm
- S2-6:7:30pm – 9:30pm
We keep fees to a minimum, so that cost does not prevent any child joining CXYP. Fees are payable at the start of each term and are based on a weekly cost of around £4 per member. (However, we do appreciate that there are times when a family has to look carefully at their budget. If necessary, we would encourage parents/carers to speak to us, in confidence, and we will try to help)
